Join GFC on June 7th for Seattle Works Day

Join Gorilla FC , Seattle Works, and 1,300 Seattleites to collectively donate over 4,500 hours of volunteer service on Seattle Works Day, Sat 6/7. Our shared love for all things green – parks, gardens, forests, and of course, Sounders FC, drives our commitment to protecting and preserving our city’s public spaces.

Give some (noon – 3.30pm)
Volunteers spend the afternoon spread across 40 project sites in Seattle and the surrounding area. From planting fruit trees in public gardens to painting community centers, Gorilla FC volunteers will mulch, dig, paint, organize, and beautify our city.
Gorilla FC will give some love to an urban forest at the Brandon Street Natural Area

Location: SW Brandon St and 29th Ave SW, West Seattle

The Brandon Street Natural Area is a 12 acre urban forest. King CD has been working with Seattle Parks for the last 7 years to restore and enhance the forests ecological functions. During the summer months volunteers help us maintain newly planted areas. The activities help ensure good survivor-ship of newly planted native trees and shrubs. Volunteers will help ensure that this functioning forest provides not only quality habitat for salmon, birds and mammals, but also providing clean air and water for the local community and Puget Sound region.

Get some (3.30pm – 5.30pm)
After an afternoon of hard work, volunteers are rewarded with food, beer, and entertainment at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall (305 Harrison St). Stoup Brewing will be pouring an exclusive Seattle Works Day beer for volunteers we chow down on tacos from Taco del Mar.

Get some more (5.30pm – 7.30pm)
There’s a game on, folks! Watch the Sounders FC take on the Chicago Fire at 5:30pm at Buckley’s Queen Anne where happy hour prices will be extended to all volunteers. Starfire Sports will be co-hosting the event and extending registration offers and other prizes to attendees. GO RAVE GREEN!

Gorilla FC Cancels Tonight's Anti-Racist Action

After reflection and hearing from many of our friends over the last several days, Gorilla FC has decided to cancel our event scheduled for this evening to take a bite out of racism. While we had heartfelt intentions, our membership has spoken and we are in agreement that a larger conversation is required before doing such an event. We still stand strong with the anti-racist campaign started by Barcelona's Neymar and Dani Alves, but want to make sure our support is done in a way that shows our members, our team, and our city as the truly great entities that they are.

Join Us in Standing Up to Racism at This Saturday's Match Against Philadelphia

Gorilla FC is proud to join the international campaign against racism started by Barcelona's Neymar and Dani Alves following a game this past week at Villareal. When a racist fan threw a banana on the field, he nonchalantly picked it up and ate it. As ESPNFC explains it:

Alves did not know the banana would be thrown onto the pitch at Villarreal on Sunday, however, he and Neymar had decided that if an incident occurred, one of them would make sure to eat the fruit on camera. That moment could then be used to kick-start a social media campaign...

This led to people all over the globe tweeting pictures of themselves eating a banana with the hashtags #somostodosmacacos and #weareallmonkeys. In an act of solidarity, GFC members will be joining in on the act at this Saturday's match against the Philadelphia Union. Here are the details.

Bring a banana for you and your neighbor. At the 2 minute mark in the match, hold up your banana. At the 3 minute mark everyone will simultaneously take a bite out of racism (and their banana).

Now everyone go out and spread the word so that we can show that Seattle stands against racism!
